About the Author
Sonja Livingston is an assistant professor in the MFA Program at the University of Memphis. Her first book, Ghostbread (Georgia), won the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Book Prize for Nonfiction. She is also the author of the recent essay collection Queen of the Fall: A Memoir of Girls and Goddesses.

Ladies Night at the Dreamland by Sonja Livingston is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in late February.
I need to preface my review by saying that this is not the book I expected it to be. I had thought that it would be a standard-issue, single-plot novel, but it turned out to be neither-here-nor-there, meandering, near-beat-poem prose. It was first-person, yet above the world and all knowing, rather than the aloof third-person voice you typically see in historical fiction. Interesting, but not my jam.

I love how Livingston has such a lyrical touch to her writing. She has a way with discussing her personal experiences and other women's tragedies that leaves me thinking about similar stories in such a way that I am a better person for having read them. I love this cook.
