Terry Kay, the author of eleven books, was inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame in 2006. Kay lives in Athens, Georgia.

I re-read this after a few years. In essence the story held up pretty well. The character development wasn't as convincing the second time around. However Kay's wonderful writing and portrayal of a time and place is very compelling. His understanding of human nature, humor, and sensitivity to societies complexities makes any of his works worth reading

Loved the story. Starts a little slow, this was a book club book so that kept me going. Once I realized the true meaning of the story I had trouble putting it down. Very insightful. Will read more by this author.

Slow starting, but a great story, especially good for those that grew up in the south in the 40's. Good for men and women to read.
